Tab tells you exactly which fret and which string to play the note on. This is extremely useful as many notes can be played in various different position on the guitar neck. So using guitar tab can take the guesswork out of deciding which fret you should play your guitar notes on. This is often not clear to guitar players from standard musical notation, although sometimes the position may be indicated by placing roman numerals below the music stave.
If you use guitar tabs instead of standard notation, you'll be able to get through a song more quickly. However, the main drawback with guitar tab is that it doesn't usually give you the length or timing of the notes. This may cause difficulties with precise musical forms, but is not so much of a problem when playing the blues guitar, as usually the player is improvising and timing is often flexible with blues music.
